Before you write — three honest notes
- We are not HMRC. UK VAT Calculator is an independent tool with no connection to HMRC or GOV.UK. We cannot look up your VAT account, registration, returns or refunds — for anything about your own tax affairs, contact HMRC directly via GOV.UK.
- We cannot give personal tax advice. We can explain how the calculator works and fix mistakes in it, but questions like "which rate applies to my product?" need an accountant or HMRC's guidance.
- Never share sensitive details. You never need to send us VAT numbers, bank details or passwords — please don't. A screenshot or example figures are plenty for reporting a calculation problem.
Reporting an error? It helps a lot if you include the amount, the rate, which mode you used (Add VAT or Remove VAT), and the result you expected. That lets us reproduce and fix the issue quickly.
